For years, the lyrics of this song has encouraged me with its reminder that love and faith have a way of leading us to places we never expected. Every time I hear it, I am reminded of an important truth: when God calls us to something and we respond in faith, we rarely know where the journey will lead.
I've learned that when your passion intersects with God's purpose for your life, the road ahead is often unpredictable. What begins as a simple idea, a gentle nudge, or even a mustard seed of faith can take you places you never imagined. Looking back, some of the most meaningful chapters of my life unfolded through opportunities and relationships I never could have planned myself.
That doesn't mean the journey is always easy.
There are moments when doubt creeps in. Sometimes it's uncertainty about the next step. Sometimes it's imposter syndrome whispering that you're not qualified, experienced enough, or capable enough for the task in front of you.
But deep down, you know.
You know because God has placed something on your heart that refuses to go away. You know because the work energizes you, even when it challenges you. You know because along the path, God continues to provide reassurance through people, circumstances, and small reminders that you're exactly where you're supposed to be.
When I think about what it looks like to walk forward in faith despite uncertainty, I am drawn to the story of Abigail in 1 Samuel. She did not have a detailed roadmap for her future. She didn't know how God would work through the difficult circumstances she faced. What she did know was that there was a right next step, and she took it with wisdom, courage, and humility. In many ways, her story reminds me that God's purpose is often revealed one faithful step at a time.
Abigail, the wife of Nabal, seemed destined for a life defined by her husband's poor decisions and foolish behavior. Yet when a crisis arose that threatened her household, she acted with wisdom and courage. She stepped forward in faith without knowing exactly how the story would end. What she could not have known was that her obedience in that moment would lead her into a completely different future than the one she had imagined.
God was already writing a larger story.
I suspect Abigail didn't wake up that morning expecting her life to change course. She simply responded faithfully to what was in front of her. Isn't that how God often works? We focus on the next faithful step while He sees the entire journey.
I've found that faith becomes exciting when you stop trying to control every detail and instead trust the One who already sees the destination. What once felt risky begins to feel like an adventure. Doors open unexpectedly. Connections form. Opportunities emerge. And suddenly you find yourself standing somewhere you never anticipated, wondering how God orchestrated it all.
The answer is often simple: love led the way.
Love for people. Love for serving. Love for a mission bigger than yourself. And above all, the love of a God whose plans are always greater than our own.
As I reflect on this message, I'm reminded that the wildest places are not necessarily geographical destinations. They are the places where faith grows, purpose becomes clear, and God's grace is revealed in ways we never expected. Like Abigail, we may not see the full picture when we take that next faithful step. We simply trust that God is working ahead of us, preparing the path and shaping the story for His purposes.
If you're in a season of uncertainty, wondering whether the road you're traveling is leading anywhere meaningful, take heart. Trust me, one day you will stand in awe of how God has brought you through. You'll look back and see His fingerprints on moments that once seemed confusing, difficult, or insignificant. You'll realize that the closed doors, unexpected turns, and even the challenges were all part of a much bigger story than you could see at the time.
In the meantime, stay close to Him. Get into God's Word. Spend time in prayer. Seek His direction above every other voice competing for your attention. The world will tell you to follow your heart, trust yourself, or chase your dreams. Scripture calls us to something far better: follow Christ. When our eyes are fixed on Him, He guides our steps, refines our desires, and aligns our passions with His purpose.
You don't need the entire journey mapped out. Abigail didn't. She simply took the next faithful step and trusted God with the outcome. Often, that's all He asks of us.
And what a privilege it is to follow wherever that path may lead. In the end, the wildest places are often the places where God's calling, our passions, and His grace meet. There, we discover what Abigail discovered: God was faithful all along, and He was writing a better story than we could have imagined.
So keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep following Him. One day you'll look back in wonder and realize that love, grace, and faith led you exactly where God intended you to be.
